Welcome to my blog, where I unpack my thoughts and rant as a millennial man, Chinese raised but born in the UK.
This is a space for self-reflection and exploration, where I discuss about identity, race, culture, language, stereotypes, traditions, Chinese takeaways and the peeve of constantly answering questions about where I’m “really from”. Proposing to challenge assumptions in mainstream society, discussing how British Chinese communities are represented (or not represented) in social narratives and dive into the cultural memory of a thriving community. Trying to see things with nuance instead of offering binary answers or align to any ideological positions. Don’t mistake this as an activist manifesto or movement of some sort. I don’t claim to be an expert or representative of certain groups, I’m just an ordinary guy sharing my thoughts via the cyberspace with others in the community and beyond.
I present my writings as a mix of essays and personal reflections, but I am by no mean a trained writer. So please excuse the mistakes. Whether you share my background or are simply curious about stories from our diaspora, I’m happy to share with you my experience and stories through an analytical perspective, and be an inspiration to all. So let’s get together and engage in the Bamboo Conversation.
